Location Details
MNA acquired the Bean Creek Nature Sanctuary in 1968. The sanctuary was renamed in honor of Robert Powell, who in 1973 left MNA a bequest to the organization. Located south of Hudson, just a few miles north of the Ohio-Michigan Border, Powell Memorial follows Bean Creek for 3/4 of mile. The sanctuary consists primarily of upland forest and the floodplain around the creek. The combination of floodplain and upland created a perfect place for a wide variety of trees to grow. In fact, over half of Michigan's native trees can be found in the sanctuary.
Although the sanctuary is open to the public, it can be difficult to access, so please call the office at (866) 223-2231 for better directions.
