Location Details
Manya S. Hunt of Gulf Shores, Alabama deeded and sold the 35 acres in Ontonagon Township of Ontonagon County to be a memorial nature sanctuary for Dr. Theodore Hall Hunt. The sanctuary is within a dissected till plain area of Lake Superior which once supported a diverse hardwood conifer forest. There are remnant examples of white pine, eastern hemlock, balsam fir, and white cedar. Now, aspen is the dominant over story species, mostly young and cutover. The area straddles two small watercourses in an area with a high density of parallel drainages into Lake Superior.
