This property was originally given to Montcalm County by George Krum in 1941 to be used as a roadside park and nature sanctuary. It was part of the farm he settled in 1910. Over the years, Krum Park became well-known for its peaceful picnic areas and flowing wells. In 1989 however, the County stopped maintaining the park and informed the Krum family of their plans to abandon it along with several other parks under County ownership. Mike Krum, great-grandson of George and Jessie Krum, had read about MNA in “Michigan Natural Resources Magazine” and asked the County to donate the property to MNA.
Most of the area is wooded and plants such as skunk cabbage and marsh marigold can be found as visitors approach Millmine Lake. Krum Memorial is a wonderful spot to stop for a quick visit or have a picnic.
