Nature Sanctuary 369 Acres in Chippewa County Located north of Taquamenon Falls, stretches one of MNA’s largest sanctuaries that occupies a remote part of Superior’s coast. A few poor roads point toward the area from south, east and west, but none quite reach it. Its native residents include deer, bear, and coyotes. This sanctuary holds next to top standing in the number of Michigan endangered, threatened, or rare plant species found in MNA sanctuaries. The beach itself is never the same; what is found along its various bands depends upon changing water levels and the severity of the past winter’s storms. Visiting this sanctuary should be guided for your first visit. You must be willing to walk miles and spend all day. Check for announced MNA field trips to experience this amazing sanctuary. |
