| What is a Nature Sanctuary? |
It is a place where all living organisms have been and will be left alone in the future to continue in age old rhythms; a place where one can see the living space for hundreds of native species just as they were before the first settlers came to Michigan.
These fast-disappearing natural areas have a diversity of lifeforms unimaginable to the casual naturalist who sees only their back yard and old fields. Even if your piece of land does not look valuable, it may be extremely valuable to us. We look for all different types of land. Your land could be one of the few existing natural areas that show the way our Michigan used to be, everywhere, and are homes to rare and exciting species. |

What makes a MNA Sanctuary so special?
Many organizations have sanctuaries, but what makes a MNA sanctuary so special? Our sanctuaries are special because we protect some the rarest species and habitats in Michigan. Since we are the oldest land conservation organization in Michigan, we have the experience necessary to ensure protection of our sanctuaries and plant preserves. MNA utilizes our stewardship program to protect Michigan’s most sensitive habitats and species so that future generations are able to enjoy the beauty and wonder that nature gives. |
